PRACTICAL GUIDE

Your first aerial yoga class

Your first aerial yoga class begins before you touch the fabric: choose a session suitable for starting, confirm the venue and tell me what you would like to understand. You do not need to arrive able to do an inversion. Here is how to prepare for that first conversation and your visit to the studio.

Your first class

Before booking, ask what the class involves and whether it is suitable for your first experience with the fabric. Aerial yoga uses suspended fabric as support. We can discuss the movements, the pace of the session and your questions.

If this is your first experience, say so when asking about a place. Tell me whether you would prefer a group class or a conversation about a private introduction. You do not need technical vocabulary. “I have never tried the fabric and would like to understand how a class begins” is enough to start.

My Heartway method makes room for hearing what you need. I would rather you ask a question before booking than feel obliged to follow something you have not understood. There is no need to compare yourself with people who already practise.

Confirm the venue and booking route

Booking depends on the studio you choose. In Ericeira, open the Ericeira Pole & Aerial location page and booking timetable. For Dhara by Sadhana in Lisbon, contact me using the link on that location page. Always confirm availability for the date you want.

Read the session name and check who is teaching before continuing. A studio timetable can include other disciplines and teachers. Finding a space at the same venue does not necessarily mean it is my class or the practice we discussed.

The one-, five- and ten-class passes belong exclusively to Ericeira Pole & Aerial and are subject to that studio’s terms. They are not prices for Lisbon, private teaching or every Heartway session. Sending an enquiry does not reserve a place.

Clothing and equipment: ask before buying

Check clothing and equipment guidance with the studio or with me before your first visit. Clothes that allow movement are a starting point, but contact with the fabric may involve particular considerations. Ask about accessories, zips and anything that might catch on the equipment.

You do not need to buy aerial fabric to try a class. Suspended equipment and the space in which it is used should be part of the session arrangements. The fabric requires professional installation. To try it, choose a class in an equipped space with in-person guidance.

Ask what the venue provides, whether you should bring a mat, where personal belongings can go and how early to arrive. Bring water and check the full address. Sorting out these small details helps avoid beginning your visit in a rush.

You can ask questions during class

You can ask for an instruction to be repeated and say when you do not understand what to do. I teach in Portuguese and English; tell me which language feels more comfortable. Understanding the guidance matters more than pretending you are following everything.

A pause, a question or a decision not to try a movement belongs in the conversation. Tell me how you feel so we can discuss the movement and pace of the session.

If your concern is the fabric, height or the group’s pace, describe it before class. I can explain the available format and we can consider whether it is the right starting point. I do not promise that every worry will disappear in one session.

Health questions and personal limits

A webpage cannot decide whether aerial yoga is appropriate for you. If you have an injury, a health condition, are pregnant or have questions about suspended activity, seek individual advice from a healthcare professional and speak to me about the session.

NCCIH’s general yoga information recommends appropriate instruction and modifications for particular circumstances. That information does not establish that every aerial posture suits every person. Explore the fabric with appropriate in-person guidance.

Please keep clinical information out of the public form. We can start with practical details and agree how to address what is needed. If you are looking for pregnancy yoga, use the prenatal page; do not book an aerial class assuming it is equivalent.

An example first enquiry

A short message helps us choose the right class. For example: “Hello Ana, I have never tried aerial yoga. I will be in Ericeira next week and prefer a class in English. Could you suggest a suitable first session and tell me what to bring?” Replace the location, language and dates with your own preferences.

If someone is coming with you, add how many places you need. If you have no date yet, mention the weekdays when you are usually available. Keep the reply with the class name, address and booking route so you do not have to reconstruct the conversation at the studio door.

Before leaving home, check that you have an actual confirmation, not just a suggested time. A WhatsApp question, an enquiry form and a studio reservation are different steps. Ask before travelling if an instruction remains unclear.

Common questions

Do I have to be flexible?

Tell me you are starting and we can discuss your experience and a suitable session. You can ask about the format and teaching before booking.

Do I have to go upside down?

Do not assume a first class requires an inversion. Ask about the format and alternatives before booking. You can also say clearly that you do not want to try a particular movement.

Can I bring a friend?

You can ask about places in the same session. Availability is individual, and a conversation with me does not hold two studio places. Confirm both bookings through the indicated route.

Are classes in English?

I teach in English and Portuguese. Tell me your preference before arriving and ask whenever something needs explaining. Language should not leave you uncertain about an instruction.

Does a message confirm the class?

No. For Ericeira, follow the studio’s confirmation; other sessions are arranged directly. Check the date, price and terms before paying or travelling.

Your next step

Start by choosing a venue and asking your first question. Check the Ericeira or Lisbon timetable and speak to me about your first class.
